What are better plant grow lights – white or red/blue?
What color of light is best for plant growth?
Purple and blue light in the range of 400-520nm promote chlorophyll absorption, photosynthesis and growth.
Red light in the 610-720 spectral range promotes flowering and germination.
Red light is very effective in regulating plant growth and development. Red light contributes to flowering and fruiting and prolongs flowering time. It can greatly enhance plant photosynthesis and promote plant growth.
White light is actually a combination of other colors in the spectrum, such as red, green and blue. Therefore, white light is actually more conducive to the process of photosynthesis than yellow light.
Although red is most effective for photosynthesis, only red light can lead to poor growth. For example, the stem is long, so adding blue can keep the plant compact and more typical shape. If you are a greenhouse grower and hope to install LED, we recommend that you use the Dmxgrow LP960 full spectrum LED grow light.
Plants grow slowly under red light, and most nutrients come from chlorophyll a. Under white light, the balance of chlorophyll a, chlorophyll b and carotenoids is good, and all photons in the visible spectrum are available, providing a better growth environment.
Just as outdoor plants grow in the sun, indoor plants grow best under full-spectrum light bulbs. The balance of cold and warm light produced by the all-optical spectrum bulb reproduces the natural solar spectrum. They are good for seedlings, indoor plants, cooking herbs and other plants.
